How do we stop bullying? Attentive teachers.

Is bullying a problem?  Set the climate.  Try day-one strategies.  Continue to infinity.

The continuing adventures of EdieLovesMath…

Well, I’ve already taught math so student teaching will be a cake walk.  An experienced teacher, a good-humored paraeducator, and me together…What could possibly go wrong?  Why do I keep asking that!!!

Day 1, the first period of my first day…that’s where the fun ended.  In walk 10 students (8 boys, 2 girls).  I know right away that I’m in trouble.  Student-teacher ratios like that mean only one thing…behavior problems.

I was right. Looking around, I was in luck.   “Hey David…is that you?”  I’m ready with a glare.  He whispers…”Don’t mess with her, she’s from Philadelphia.”  “That’s right so don’t try to scare me.  Kids from the suburbs aren’t all that.”  Stare.  “Hey John.  What’s up?”  Stare.  He finally grumbles…”Miss Edie breaks up the fights in our neighborhood.”  Silence…

It takes a village to stop bullying. Document. Keep your school informed.
