Knowing how to text and load apps is not enough. You need healthy habits when using technology. The internet is a tool to achieve academic, professional, and personal goals. The focus is to have the ability to perform tasks effectively in a variety of environments.
Digital literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share, and create content using information technologies across a broad range of digital devices. There are specific protocols impacting a person’s ability to perform tasks effectively whether using traditional networked devices (PCs, laptops), or mobile technology (tablets, smartphones). An additional component is reproducing data and images through digital manipulation.
Technology is a powerful and transformative learning tool, which enhances understanding. Students with ADHD benefit as digital media requires critical thinking to exploit its efficacy. They evaluate purpose to construct their own meaning by applying to traditional academic disciplines (reading, writing, math).
The literacy component reflects the ability to read and interpret media. Students evaluate and apply new knowledge gained from digital environments. Care should be taken in finding and selecting resources that are reputable.

Digital literacy uses knowledge strategically to foster creativity, critical thinking, and cultural and social understanding. Students with ADHD must be proficient in communication and networks, locating and evaluating technology to develop the expertise to master upper-level skills. This ongoing process can develop adeptness of interpreting data and manipulating media that are essential for success in high school and beyond.
“Our kids” love technology, but can easily get off task. Establish specific, consistent procedures before work begins.
