Is ADHD a Mental Illness? (Research)

The diagnosis of ADHD is an ongoing controversy.  Should we use interviews?  What about checklists?  Current research extoles the importance of using medically based diagnostic tools.  DSM-5 provides a list of characteristics that must exist for the answer.  Yes…it’s the reference tool used for mental illness.

    I have a 6 year granddaughter with ADHD. She is very smart and started school last Sept. She will not do any work at school. Her mother can not get her to do homework .Her teacher’s don’t know what you tell her mom.So I am asking u what or how can we get help for sweet Gia Thank you………. Sheila. Grandma

      Thanks for reaching out. She’s young and that’s a great thing on your part. Is she in kindergarten or first grade? Does she have an IEP or 504 Plan?
