What Happens When Kids Live on Their SmartPhones?

Screen Time

How much time do you spend on your phone every day? Answer? More than family time. How about your kids? Less than you!

  • Dinner
  • Parties
  • Work
  • Games
  • Social Media

Believe it or not, adults spend more screen time than kids. Luckily, there are apps that can track duration, identify apps, and research notifications. Both Android and Apple offer Screen Time.

  • Daily screen time
  • Sort by app
  • Send the most notifications
  • Circle graph
  • Set a timer
  • Do not disturb
  • Manal or schedule
  • Web sites

Teachers talk. So do parents. What does research say? How much should all us stay online?

  • Children under 2:    None
  • Children 2-12        One hour/day
  • Teens-Adults        Max out at 2 hours/day

Believe it or not, the average teen spends 49 minutes/day on their phone. If you’re below the recommendation, you’re not off the hook. Teens and young adults with ADHD and Autism are especially at risk for anxiety, depression, and attention impact. You should set boundaries. Be consistent.

  • Limit game play.
  • Create a phone-free zone.
  • Play after specific tasks.
  • Be accountable.
  • Go outside.

Think about it. Mobile phones are everywhere. Be mindful.
